The census is available exclusively at Find My Past and it isn’t free to view. In order to view an individual record, the cost is £2.50 for a transcript or £3.50 for the original image, with a 10% discount to those who sign up for a monthly subscription Pro account.

You can search the census with a variety of variables first to ensure you have the correct family before you make a purchase.

To be able to view the 1921 census for free, you can access the data at Kew Gardens in London and Manchester Central Library.

The 1921 census will be the last one to be released for a while after the 1931 one was destroyed in a fire and there wasn’t another one taken until 1951.

It’s certainly not cheap to access them online, but with many people looking to unlock the secrets of their past it’s a very welcome addition to the current records.
