As part of the UK Afghan Locally Employed Staff (LES) Relocation scheme, which aims to relocate Afghan nationals who provided support to British troops, 80 Afghans will be re-housed in the borough.

Councillor Adrian Andrew, Deputy Leader, Regeneration said: “Walsall Council will be playing our part in the nation’s call to help and welcome these brave people who were a vital part of the British Army’s operations in Afghanistan.”

“We are pledging to support a similar number to those we are seeing in other areas across the country by offering to provide homes for 80 individuals, helping them to settle and become part of the community here in Walsall.”

Tam Miller, Secretary, Aldridge Royal British Legion said, “It is great to hear that Walsall has offered to support these brave families and we are able to give something back for their service and commitment.”

“This offer will go a long way to meeting the urgent call nationally for accommodation for Afghan national families that have supported our armed forces.”

Discussions on accommodation and integration support are still in the planning as authorities await more details on the scheme.

Dudley, Wolverhampton authorities are also taking part in the scheme.
