New Mayor of Walsall for 2022 Announced

The new Mayor of Walsall has been revealed this week to take over from Councillor Rose Burley, who has held the post over the last year.

Councillor Rose Martin, who was first elected in 2013 and represents the Pelsall Ward, was handed the robes and chains of office in a ceremony on Monday 23 May 2022 where she was elected as Walsall Mayor for 2022-23.

Councillor Chris Towe was elected as Deputy Mayor.

Councillor Rose Martin, the Mayor of Walsall, said: “It’s an immense honour and privilege to become Mayor of Walsall and I’d like to thank Councillor Rose Burley for all her hard work during her term of office. I’d also like to pay tribute to former Councillor Sarohi who, due to his sad passing, was unable to become Mayor himself this year. Councillor Sarohi was a kind and caring gentleman who is missed by many.

“It’s going to be a busy start with the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations and I’m looking forward to meeting residents across the borough. My chosen charities for the year are WellWishers, FastAid and the Walsall Community Network, three very worthwhile local causes.”

This week, Walsall Council also released a promotional video called “We Are Walsall – 2040” showcasing the town as they plan to regenerated the town over the coming years.
