Plans Proposed For New Walsall Lidl On Busy Birmingham Road

Supermarket giant Lidl is hoping to build a new store in Walsall on land where a hotel and restaurant currently stand.

If the proposal gets the green light, it would mean the demolition of the Metro Inns Hotel and The Broadway Bar and Grill on Birmingham Road.

While local residents are concerned about extra traffic and congestion on a busy road, both businesses are still open and would lose approximately 40 staff if plans go ahead.

New Lidl Store Would Employ Up To 40 Staff

However, in its plans, Lidl states that the new 1,370 square metre store would employ up to 40 full-time staff while providing “a new discount food shopping experience to meet the needs of customers and the expanding local community.”

The new Birmingham Road Lidl in Walsall would be open from 8am-10pm on Monday- Saturday and 10am-4pm on Sundays with 76 spaces available for vehicles.

Lidl is currently consulting local residents and three local councilors from the Paddock ward are urging the company to look elsewhere for suitable land.
