Appearing at Wolverhampton Court, 46-year-old Michael Chlebec of Sandbank, Bloxwich pleaded guilty to forcing open the roller shutters of the Market Place store before smashing a glass display cabined to steal bottles of perfume valued at approximately £850.

The incident took place on November 1 when the store was broken into at approximately 1.25am.

Chlebec, who has a long history of criminal offences dating back to 1995, was caught due to blood recovered at the scene that matched his DNA and in court claimed that he needed money to pay off drug debts.

The Birmingham Mail quotes his defending lawyer Miss Nicole Steers who told the jury that “he owed money to suppliers who smashed up a car he owned and then threatened to attend his home address, where (his) partner and young child lived.”

Chlebec was given an eight-month jail sentence.
