Drones Could Target Off-Road Bikers

Due to an increase in reports that off-road bikes and electric scooters have been causing a nuisance in Walsall, the council is considering buying drones to help tackle the issue.

Drones could take to the skies of Walsall

Over the last 12 months, 777 complaints have been registered with West Midlands police from residents, and the council now hopes to use the technology to track offenders and seize vehicles.

Over 100 of these reports were related to intimidation and noise nuisance in the Pelsall area.

“We’re gathering lots of data and we’re starting to get the evidence together to be able to deal with this in a proactive way. The message from ourselves is ‘we’re coming to get you and your bikes’,” said Paul Gordon, the council’s director of resilient communities.

Drones are currently available to share across the West Midlands police force, but Walsall Council leader Mike Bird says that they are looking at financing a drone solely for use by the Walsall police force.
