Landlords Could Face £5,000 Fines For Not Meeting Fire Regulations

In new proposals that are awaiting parliamentary approval, private landlords could face fines of up to £5,000 for not complying with new regulations.

Potential changes include the need for landlords to install carbon dioxide alarms in every room in the house that contains a fixed combustion appliance, and one smoke alarm on every storey of their home.

These alarms must then be maintained by the landlord with fines for non-compliance being set up to £5,000.

Walsall Council is encouraging local private landlords to prepare for the changes ahead of an approved announcement.
