Walsall Gets Sport England Funding To Encourage People To Get Active

Walsall will be receiving part of a £1,441,897 investment from Sport England, which has been awarded to the Black Country.

The National Lottery-funded investment is part of a £300 million investment that is made each year to aid local projects and programmes designed to get people active and play sport, and is part of a larger investment into the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.

The Black Country will share the money with Coventry, Solihull and Birmingham, and will be invested in creating more volunteer opportunities, cycling and walking programmes, encouraging residents to use the canal network and social prescribing.

Amanda Tomlinson, Chair of the Active Black Country Board said:

“This award is fantastic news for the Black Country and will ensure we can make the most of the impact and legacy of the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games for all our communities.

“Like all our projects, Active Black Country have worked collaboratively with partners to develop our successful Commonwealth Active Communities plan and reflects the difference we collectively want to make to individuals, communities, places and organisations.”
