Supporting the current Mayor of Walsall, Councillor Rose Burley, Martin had previously held the position of portfolio holder for Adult Social Care, which will now be taken up by Streetly Councillor Keir Pedley.

Cllr Rose Martin said:

“I am very honoured to have been voted in by council as the new Deputy Mayor and in so doing, I will also pay tribute to our late colleague and special friend to Walsall, Harbans Singh Sorahi who served as Deputy Mayor before his sad passing.  I very much look forward to serving the borough and supporting the Mayor in my new role. Thank you.”

Cllr Keir Pedley said:

“My thanks to Council for the confidence you have placed in me. In my new role as portfolio holder for adult social care, I am looking forward to working with the council’s Cabinet and serving our borough.

“I am passionate about the delivery of our Adult Social Care services and helping the people of Walsall. I hope that some of my previous experience as a healthcare manager in this field will also add value to my role.”

Martin, who was first elected as a Councillor in 2003, will be deputy mayor for the Walsall borough for the remainder of the 2021/2022 Municipal Year.
