More than 8,000 Walsall Residents Share Ambitions For Future Of The Town

More than 8,000 Walsall residents have responded to calls from the council to have their say on the most important priorities for the borough over the coming years.

Feedback was requested for the Walsall 2040 plan, which seeks to provide a strategic framework for Walsall Council and its partners to prioritise resources and to develop shared ambitions for a Walsall that works for everyone.

According to responses, residents are most keen for Walsall to:

  • Be a safe place to live
  • Have clean streets
  • Offer good jobs
  • Be a place they can be proud of

Councillor Garry Perry, Deputy Leader of Walsall Council, said: “We have big ambitions for Walsall’s future. Tens of millions of pounds have been secured to transform this borough over the next 15 to 20 years. Together with our partners and those who live, work and care about Walsall we want to shape a better future for the borough. The massive response that we have received to the engagement programme shows us that communities from across Walsall want to have their say, and we will listen to what they have told us.”

The Walsall 2040 plan will take into account the responses by the public and will be revealed in full in early 2023.

Plans For New Nursery In Bloxwich Park Conservation Area

A new nursery situated at a former school master’s house could be opening in Bloxwich if plans submitted to Walsall Council get approved.

Park Lodge in Bloxwich

JS Properties has filed a proposal to turn the three-bedroom Park Lodge situated next to All Saints Academy on the High Street into a nursery.

The application includes a proposed extension to the property, which currently sits in the Bloxwich Park Conservation Area.

Agents Architettura said: “The applicant proposes to re-purpose the existing dwelling and associated garage to provide a children’s Day Nursery.

“This will involve a small, single-storey, flat-roofed extension to the rear of the building as a small addition to a prior single-storey extension.

“The site is within Bloxwich Park Conservation Area. It is considered that, given the very modest extent of building work proposed in and its location on the site, the proposal is not significant to the setting of the building.

“The proposed small extension is to the prior/existing modern flat-roofed extension and is substantially out of sight at the rear of the Lodge.”

A decision on the application is expected to made in the new year.

New Bleed Control Kits In Walsall Could Save Lives

Life-saving bleed control kits have been distributed across the borough by West Midlands Police for use in emergencies.

10 kits have been placed at strategic locations with another 23 bleed kits due to be distributed shortly.

Locations include the Saddlers Centre in Walsall, The Crown Inn in Aldridge, Swan Flooring in Brownhills and Pelsall Village Centre.

The bleed kits include tourniquets, bandages, gloves and other essentials that allow members of the public to help treat injuries before paramedics arrive on the scene.

Funding for the kids was made possible thanks to the Daniel Baird Foundation, which was set up by Daniel’s mother Lynne following the tragic murder of her son in 2017.

PC Ian Brotherton, Young Persons Officer at Walsall, said: “These bleed kits are being rolled out through an excellent multi-agency approach.

“Walsall Police have been working in joint partnership with a number of agencies including the emergency services, Walsall Council and the West Midlands Violence Reduction Partnership and this is just a great example of how joint agency working can work so productively.

“It’s important when someone is stabbed, cut or injured that they receive first aid treatment straight away.

“These kits are designed to save lives and they are now being placed in accessible locations across the Walsall borough in case they are needed to save a life.”

Drones Could Target Off-Road Bikers

Due to an increase in reports that off-road bikes and electric scooters have been causing a nuisance in Walsall, the council is considering buying drones to help tackle the issue.

Drones could take to the skies of Walsall

Over the last 12 months, 777 complaints have been registered with West Midlands police from residents, and the council now hopes to use the technology to track offenders and seize vehicles.

Over 100 of these reports were related to intimidation and noise nuisance in the Pelsall area.

“We’re gathering lots of data and we’re starting to get the evidence together to be able to deal with this in a proactive way. The message from ourselves is ‘we’re coming to get you and your bikes’,” said Paul Gordon, the council’s director of resilient communities.

Drones are currently available to share across the West Midlands police force, but Walsall Council leader Mike Bird says that they are looking at financing a drone solely for use by the Walsall police force.
