The Rally is a tradition that celebrates and brings together communities from across the Commonwealth during the build up to the Games.

It officially began on October 7th when the Queen placed her message to The Commonwealth in the baton which is now embarking on a journey visiting all 72 nations and territories of the Commonwealth before returning to the opening ceremony of the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games on July 28th 2022.

The Learning Resources have been created for Reception, Key Stage 1, Key Stage 2 and are aimed at developing children’s understanding of the Queens Baton Rally.

The activities in the resources range in length and can therefore be selected to suitably fit into school’s learning schedules and timetables.

The programme will develop transferrable skills in communication, confidence building, presentation, and research.

These resources were developed by Games organisers with support from an external creative education company who’s aim is to connect children and learning using creativity and imagination.

Alton Brown, Head of Youth Programmes and Policy at Birmingham 2022, said: “These free online resources will provide real value in the classroom offering pupils a greater understanding of the significance on the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games and the Queen’s Baton Rally.

“The Learning packs are now available to download for Schools across the West Midlands and beyond to delve into and enjoy and our hope is that they provide hours of enjoyment for Pupils.

Were launching these resources ahead of our wider Youth Programme which will go live early next year.

“The Programme will see us work closely with Teachers, School Networks and Youth Organisations and engage with at least 1 million young people across the region.

Andy Street, The Mayor of the West Midlands said: “The Queen’s Baton Rally resources will be a fantastic asset for Children across the West Midlands to broaden their knowledge of The Commonwealth Countries as well as build excitement ahead of the Games next year.

“This is a great initiative and shows how Birmingham 2022 is so much more than just medals.”

Doctor’s Appointments Are Now Being Triaged

Black Country GP practises have changed the way they’re offering patient appointments.

From immediate effect, all appointments are being triaged. This means that patients will be asked a series of questions in order to determine what type of appointment they should be given, whether it be via telephone, video or face-to-face.

The triage process will usually be conducted by a trained member of the practice team, including nurse practitioners and health care assistants.

A spokesman for the Black Country MHS Clinical Commissioning Group said: “Many GP practices now include a range of health professionals who can diagnose and treat health conditions. This ensures that patients see the right person at the right time.

“If it is most appropriate for patients to see a doctor, they will be offered an appointment with a GP. However, the GP isn’t always the best person to see.”
